Municipal Information

Town Description

Home of the oldest Town (Meeting) House in continuous use in the United States, Sedgwick was incorporated in 1789 and has a history of marine-related occupations, and also incorporates the town of Sargentville. Fishing, clam-digging, seafaring and shipbuilding each have had a significant role in the local economy. More recently, a growing number of small farms supply locals and farmers markets. Favored with a long shoreline with many public access points, the town renovated and rebuilt the dock at Benjamin River Town Landing in 2016 and also offers public swimming and docking at Walker Pond Town Landing, in partnership with the town of Brooksville.

One of the most striking scenic spots on the Peninsula is Caterpillar Hill on Route 15, with a sweeping vista over Penobscot Bay and Camden in the west, south to Isle au Haut, and east to Jericho Bay. Just past the roadside viewing turnout is Cooper Farm Road, which winds down through blueberry fields to Walker Pond Town Landing.
